ABOUT
Are you Puerto Rican, but you don't live on the island? Do you want to visit PR and have an authentic experience? Have you always wanted to learn more about your culture, your heritage, and your roots? If yes, then Diasporican Tours are for you!

Diasporican Tours are vacation packages created specifically to help Boricuas in the Diaspora connect to their motherland. With a mix of cultural experiences, gorgeous landscapes and hidden gems, we immerse you in the beautiful, vibrant and magical land of our ancestors.

Our guides, Angelina and Dean, are both Puerto Ricans from the diaspora (born & raised in the States), that now live full time on the island. Moving to Puerto Rico has changed their lives and given them a much deeper and profound perspective on what it means to be Boricua. And now they are excited to share their knowledge and experience as island locals - with you!

Angelina is a Jersey Rican that has been living in San Juan since 2013. She is an actress and producer that writes about the Latino experience, and her stand-up show "Sorta Rican" - a comedy about Boricua identity - has toured nationwide.

Dean is a Nuyorican that has been living in San Juan since 2020. He's a content creator with a social media following of 900K, and he uses his platform to bring the PR diaspora and the island together through comedy, culture and history.
Both Angelina and Dean also have extensive experience working in tourism in Puerto Rico. From Salsa classes to jet ski tours to jungle hikes, these 2 know how to bring you to the best spots for the best adventures!

ITINERARY

DAY 1
It's arrival day...welcome home! We let you take your time checking in and getting settled, and whenever you're ready, come join us at the beach - which is walking distance from the hotel!
After a beach day, we head back to the hotel's hookah lounge for a family dinner and social mixer where we'll meet each other and some other PR locals. If you're interested in relocating to PR, you'll have a chance to learn about resources that can help you move here.

After dinner, it's time for a Salsa lesson with Angelina. Once you've learned the local moves, we head to a nearby Salsa bar where there's live music and dancing!

DAY 2
Vamanos pa'l monte! We head into the mountains of PR - "el campo" - to get in touch with our Taíno heritage.
We'll visit a Taíno museum where we can see cultural artifacts and learn more about our Indigenous history.

After the museum, we head to the nearby river where you can see real, authentic Taíno petroglyphs carved into the rocks by our ancestors. We'll take a refreshing dip in the river and stay for lunch.

DAY 3
Today we visit the exceptional nature spots of PR. We trek through the river to visit one of the best hidden gems on the island - a jungle canyon with a gorgeous swimming hole that lets you swim through a limestone cave. Truly unique!

After the cool waters of the swimming hole, we warm back up at a popular and lively beach that has wading pools formed by volcanic rock.

DAY 4
This is your free day! Sundays are the most popular day to go out and about in PR, so we give you the day to plan your own adventure (and we're happy to give you some suggestions).

After your free part of the day, we meet back up at sunset and head to Loíza - the part of our island with prominent African culture and heritage.

In Loíza we'll catch a live Bomba performance - the folkloric dance of Puerto Rico that celebrates our African ancestry, history and culture.

DAY 5
And of course, we have to go out with a bang! On our final day we drive down to the port where we'll take a small boat over to Icacos - a little island off of the coast.

Icacos is the epitome of Caribbean island paradise - white sand beach, crystal clear turquoise water, and vibrant tropical fish! We'll stay for the day and party with the boat culture locals!

IS THIS TRIP IS FOR YOU?
This trip is for people who have Puerto Rican ancestry, that want to connect to their motherland. We want Puerto Ricans that are ready to dig deeper. Yes it will be LIT! But this is more than a vacation. We create an experience for you to understand your history, your ancestry and your culture. We want to show you what's going on politically here today, and how you can help. If you're interested in moving to island, we want to teach you how to do it practically, and with respect for our family here on the island.

This trip is for people with an adventurous spirit and attitude! We will be hopping around from the city to the mountains to the beach, and traveling in the Caribbean is unpredictable. Flights are sometimes delayed, traffic (or even car trouble) can cause delays, weather is unpredictable - things happen that are out of our control, so we need you to be ready to roll with the punches.

This trip is for active people. We will be walking, hiking, dancing - sometimes in hot and humid weather. If you have any concerns or questions about the activity level of this trip, please reach out to us at contact@nueva.productions before booking.

This trip is for open-minded, respectful people. Puerto Rico has a completely different culture and way of life than the States. Things may move slower (we call it island time) so sometimes things start late or service takes longer. Your cell signal or WiFi accessibility may be weak in some places. Many people do not speak English. As a visitor, we ask you to please be respectful of the local people and their culture. We also ask you to be respectful of us and each other. We have a zero tolerance policy for anyone acting out due to drinking, drugs, prejudice or violence. Offenders will be excluded from all excursions and group activities with no refund.
TRAVEL INSURANCE
It is mandatory that all travelers provide proof of current and adequate travel insurance before the trip begins. Plans are very reasonable and start at around $50.
Travel insurance must cover the following:
• Personal injury
• Emergency medical expenses overseas
• Repatriation, and evacuation expenses

It is highly recommended that you add to your travel insurance also trip delay, baggage loss or delay, personal property and trip cancellation coverage. Trip cancellation insurance may be the only means of receiving reimbursement for flights should a Diasporican Tours trip be canceled for any reason, whether voluntarily by you or as a result of an emergency situation on our end.

Here are a few of the many different travel insurance companies you can look into:
COVID-19
Some places in Puerto Rico require a vaccination card (or proof of negative test results), and/or masks. Please come prepared with both items when you arrive. There are multiple testing locations available if necessary. If you do test positive at any point during the trip, you will be asked to remove yourself from group activities for the sake of your health and the health of others.
